Mixed Media On Handmade Paper
Dhauladhariyan // धौलाधारियाँ is an anthology of paintings by Pratik Raut, rooted in the serene, enduring beauty of all life on the slopes of the timeless Dhauladhar. The works gently weave weather, landscape, people and architecture into tranquil frames that breathe. The terraced fields, scattered trees, and clustered homes recall the lyrical motifs of Kangri miniature painting, lending the work a timeless grace. The textured handmade paper post process and undergoing several layers of wash, becomes part of the earth itself in depiction, its creases echoing and seamlessly taking an additional layer of sometimes the sky and at other times, the earth.
Pratik’s emphasised play of light and shadow across the slopes layered on passing clouds and shifting hours, holds within it, the slow rhythm of rural pastoral time. Each tree, field, and roof feels carefully placed, yet there is a looseness — an openness — that allows the paintings to breathe like the valleys they truthfully depict. The spaces become as alive as the ones Pratik has lived, letting the viewer wander, pause, and rest within the scenes. In this way, the paintings are less of pictures and more of moments — memories suspended in color and texture. These works by Pratik are a celebration of the way land and life shape each other, of homes that grow out of the hillsides like extensions of the terrain and the communities that are nestled in it.
Pratik’s compositions are a celebration of coexistence — where human habitation, sky, and soil breathe together — evoking the ness in the poetry of mountain living.
